The official explanation developed in the 1990s identifies the Roswell debris as originating from the classified Project Mogul balloon programme. That account concerns the recovery of equipment, radar reflectors, rubber, foil and related components—not crash occupants.

It would not automatically establish an extraterrestrial crash, but it would require historians to explain why personnel discussing what was officially described as balloon debris were simultaneously referring to victims.

That does not guarantee accuracy. Contemporary documents can contain mistakes, assumptions or incomplete information.
