Was Marcel shown the real Roswell debris?

Introduction

The question of whether Jesse Marcel saw the actual ranch debris in Fort Worth or was presented with a staged substitute sits at the centre of the Roswell debris controversy. Marcel was not a distant witness. He was the intelligence officer from Roswell Army Air Field who helped recover material from the New Mexico ranch and then appeared in General Roger Ramey’s office on 8 July 1947 as reporters photographed the debris spread across the floor. The substitution theory emerged largely from Marcel’s later interviews. Beginning in the late 1970s, he argued that the material recovered near Roswell was extraordinary and that the weather-balloon explanation was false. When the US Air Force re-examined the Roswell case in the 1990s, investigators obtained high-quality original photographic materials, including first-generation prints and negatives. Their analysis concluded that the debris visible in Marcel’s photographs and the debris visible in Ramey’s photographs was the same wreckage. That conclusion does not automatically settle the larger question. It narrows it. Why Substitution Claims Start Before His Frames

An important detail often overlooked is that Marcel himself eventually described a more limited version of the substitution scenario than many later retellings suggest.
